You can run about 2 motors off of one output (as the RCX goes into thermal
shutdown at 500ma and each motor will (on average) draw 200ma at a stall).
Sorry I can't help you with the device part, but (don't let this start
flames) can't you just hook up a power transistor with a heatsink and a
power source?

I think John Barnes has designed such a beast. John, maybe you can
answer here?

Dean,
Your motor multiplexer is cool, but not really what I'm
after.   What I
need is a way to have a single output drive several motors in the same
direction at the same time (IE Hook them all up in parallel.)
After reading
some of the posts here and thinking about the fact that the RCX only • uses
AA's it's clear that I don't want to run 4 motors off of each of the 3
outputs.  Even if it didn't hurt the RCX, the motors wouldn't get
much juice
: (  What I think I really need is a current amplifier that can
switch fast
enough that I don't lose the PWM signals.  Is there such an animal ?
                                            Thanks,

Gives you 6 outputs from 3.

(...) Actually, you need four transistors in what is called an H-bridge configuration. This is due to the fact that the motors are usually intended for bi-directional use. If you are only using them in one direction, a single transitor will suffice. (...) (24 years ago, 12-Feb-01, to lugnet.robotics)
