    IR Tower problems —Greg Ericksen
I recently purchased an IR tower to use with my Scout. It did not come with a cable, but the tower was only 6$(www.eblok.com), so I found a cable that could plug into the back of it. The other end of the cable fit into the printer plug on the back (...) (24 years ago, 21-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Eep!!! Not PRINTER port but the SERIAL port. You'll damage your Port and maybe the IR tower as well! Try it in the SERIAL port and it will work much better. Dean -- Coin-Op's For Sale!: (URL) Lego Workshop: (URL) Lego Club: (URL) (24 years ago, 21-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Don't try this at home kids !!!...!!! NO ! This can't work !! The printerport is as parallel port and not a serial port. The availablity of the IR-tower is checked by using the serial handshake line. This can't work with printerport ! (...) I (...) (24 years ago, 22-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) BTW, this is not true on all hardware, but usually is true on PCs, which is of course what we care about right now. Serial ports are male (IE, have pins in them rather than holes) because part of the RS-232 specification is that you should be (...) (24 years ago, 22-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)
