I'm building my own Java code to drive the CM from my PC COM port. Now I have some testing/lab sw which reasonably reliably writes to and reads from the COM port, I got stuck at read sensor using the GetValue opcode 0x12. I can read the variables (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

I agree with you that the manual won't be an issue, and as for the CD-ROM I'm pretty sure you can obtain a free English version from (...) (25 years ago, 8-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.loc.ca)

I'm trying to find a few (At least 1) 6551 Lego Electrical Switch. I saw two in an old Space Shuttle Technics kit. Lego's web site does not find it by part number. Anyone know where I could get some? (...) Getting the HP to talk to the RCX is possible, although it requires a lot of assembler programming on the HP. The 2.0 may have improvements, but at $110 or so US, the 1.5 is hard to pass up, for someone just starting out with the RIS. LEGO certainly won't be lowering the MSRP on 2.0! :) Andy (...) (25 years ago, 6-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)

Definitely the Ultimate Accessory set if you don't already have one. It also has an angle sensor, which can be quite useful for sensing which way your robot is facing using a differential. The Exploration Mars doesn't have that many pieces in it (...) (25 years ago, 5-Jan-01, to lugnet.robotics)
