  A new sensor idea (perhaps)

I was musing over what the well sensored robot would be sensing next and it crossed my mind that a small metal detector sensor might be an interesting addition. Light sensor electrical interface. Brick sized. Limited range but could provide (...) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Well, I'm glad I read the thread first since my two suggestions were going to be a magnet and a suction cup (either with or without a vacuum - a suction cup by itself should be able to do the job). (I was going to ask if american quarters were (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

Well, about the metal detecion, ive some small metal detectors. the shape of them is a threaded cylinder they vary from about 1cm in diameter to 0.5 cm. The range in length from 4-6cm. Im not exactly sure how they work, but i know how to use them. (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) These are standard inductive proximity switches. They have a small amount of electronics inside, and generate an oscillating magentic field. Bringing any piece of conductive material close, alters the behaviour of this field. Different types (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)
