Well, I'm glad I read the thread first since my two suggestions were
going to be a magnet and a suction cup (either with or without a vacuum
- a suction cup by itself should be able to do the job). (I was going to
ask if american quarters were magnetic not having one handy to test
with.)
With the magnet approach you don't even need the sensor - just use a
hollow cylindrical electromagnet encircling a touch sensor - when the
touch sensor is activated it is time to put the quarter in the
collecting bin and then return to the sweeping position.
Now I see how unoriginal I was! I'm trying to come up with a third
suggestion, but I couldn't come up with something that would work
reliably. Anyone have a *reliable* alternative to suction or magnetism?

| I was musing over what the well sensored robot would be sensing next and it crossed my mind that a small metal detector sensor might be an interesting addition. Light sensor electrical interface. Brick sized. Limited range but could provide (...) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.robotics)
