(...) What do you consider "ludicrously huge"? Java for robots in fact does not require a virtual machine at all, it can run on a Java implementation in silicon. We've been using this for about 4 years, and so have classes at the Univ of Utah and (...) (20 years ago, 18-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

(...) Perhaps the best answer is to have the sensor tell you itself. You do this with "tagging memory" associated with each sensor and actuator. This is similar to IEEE1451, the smart sensor spec. We have developed and are using such a scheme on (...) (20 years ago, 18-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)
