Re: Why java (or other langs) for Robots

Let me throw in here: the reason to port a high-level language like Java (or my favorite, Python) to a machine like NXT, even though there may be some compromises: Programming is hard. Programming in a language that is closer to the machine is (...) (20 years ago, 18-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

(...) Would if I could, but I can't so I'm sad--only 17! One of those few times that I have wished to be older faster. Grr. And I've experience with MINDSTORMS that is on par with many people out here: my first MINDSTORMS set was given to me on (...) (20 years ago, 18-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

(...) I run a business that teaches kids Mindstorms in after school groups, birthday parties, and summer camps. I have many kids who are Mindstorms fanatics as well as just curious kids. I teach hundreds of kids each year and would love to work with (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Universal Joints - White center cross part

(...) The old style universal joints had a white centre: (URL) possible one has been substituted into a new joint. To me the part looks the same, except it's grey in the new style joints. ROSCO (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

(...) I would try to figure out how to program this thing with a more powerful language, and see what it's really capable of. Someone has to be the Kekoa of NXT. (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

  Re: Why Java for Robots

Hi Peter, (...) there are plenty of other languages, many in research, that sit on top of a Java VM, and the interesting ones need garbage collection (I've been explicitly asked this for Curry :-) ). Also, other kinds of VMs are popular with Lisp (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: Why Java for Robots (was NXT and bluetooth enabled phones)

(...) No - absolutely not. I program with both and am fully aware of the differences. Java was ALSO designed to stay in the sand-box when initially started from there. (...) Java is faster where someone has already written suitable libraries. (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Universal Joints - White center cross part

I dont have the camera handy, I need help identifying a Lego Universal Joint. I just got in a few used lego Universal Joints from a seller in the UK. They are all fine, nice condition, even this one in question. But this one has a all white solid (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

(...) I don't envy the people (presumably Soren) that have to roll their sleeves up and make the decision. But what could/would I do to help in the time frame from March to August? 1) I am good at beating software to death. As a former Software (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)

Re: How many people signed up for the NXT Developer's Program?

(...) Kevin - why wait until Brickfest? Make a T3 robot (presumably completely pneumatic) and come to Lafayette for the competition in March. Based on Steve's robot performance Sunday, you would earn a tie by just showing up :) (in all fairness - (...) (20 years ago, 17-Jan-06, to lugnet.robotics)
