  Lego for real research

I was interested to note the sad comments about Lego being just a toy! I am also a professional engineer, of 25 years standing, who enjoys recreational Lego. RIS is one of the more significant steps toward accessible home robotics in recent years. I (...) (26 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)

In an important series I took as part of my computer science degree at the University of Utah, we did group projects simulating industry (requirements, design phase, etc....) which turned out products which were robots and scanners and such of (...) We're trying to use the little radio shack IR transmitter and reciever units to build our own. We're not sure exactly how this will work, but before we get too far, is this a reasonable thing to do? Will these be strong enough to use as proximity (...) (26 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics.handyboard)

  RE: 180° IR Eyeball

I believe there is a problem with the theory used in the article. He talks about using the Radio Shack emitter/detectors to do some 180 deg Detection. He's talking about using multiple emitters and detectors as proximity detectors. (much like using (...) (26 years ago, 7-Oct-99, to lugnet.robotics)
