  Re: The Royal Train Website

Chris, The dark green on the "Kathryn" locomotive is nothing more than carefully trimmed contact paper used to line kitchen drawers. Because she was decorated five years ago, the gold pinstriping and lettering was cut and applied by hand under (...) * Brian Williams (brian_williams@ameritech.net) [010101 11:54]: (...) Would you do me the favor and explain how you did the coloring of the engine? I have never seen that color. I would *love* to see some tutorials for how you have done stuff. Or (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.build, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: SFX: Flying LEGO?

(...) and (...) Not sure if I was clear on what I meant by plastic. That little diagram with the Ps were suppose to look like a sheet of plastic. It would stretch all the way across the scene so the ends are not seen by the camera. I need to go buy (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: SFX: Flying LEGO?

(...) Huh, interesting. The closest I've come to that is using the clear plastic SW cannon that came in the Naboo Swamp sets. It works well for low-flying things and isn't very obvious even in the original photographs. J (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: SFX: Flying LEGO?

(...) The Studio set says to do this by using some kind of clear plastic. You set the plastic up so you can stick the object to it with tape or something sticky. I have not tried using the tip yet but the only time I needed it was in my ninja movie (...) (25 years ago, 2-Jan-01, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: SFX: Flying LEGO?

Hi Jeff! I know of five ways to fake flying: 1. Attach model with string - digitally edit out supports later (as you say, very time consuming) 2. Film model in such a way that the supports are hidden from camera view. In my movie, "2001: A Lego (...) (25 years ago, 1-Jan-01, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.publish.photography)

  SFX: Flying LEGO?

This is tangentially related to both groups so I thought I'd crosspost. I understand that the LEGO Studios set contains tips & tricks for making models appear to fly without using string. I've done some work on my own in this regard (some of which (...) (25 years ago, 1-Jan-01, to lugnet.animation, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: The Royal Train Website

(...) I know first-hand that Brian does NOT paint the bricks. The colors are from various kinds of adhesive tapes, and they could all be removed without harming the bricks (if for some reason he decided he needed to do that...) I've seen a few of (...)   Re: The Royal Train Website

(...) So, all the work on (URL) (for instance) is stickers? You're good! How do you do that? Like everyone else has said already, your stuff is incredible. Thanks for sharing. Chris (25 years ago, 1-Jan-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.build, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: The Royal Train Website

(...) I'm definitely starting to weaken on this one... good stickers add a lot. I'n not sure I'd go as far as to change the colors of elements, but for signage and detail they can't be beat. (...) I'm still holding out on these two though. It's (...) (25 years ago, 1-Jan-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.build, lugnet.publish.photography)

  Re: The Royal Train Website

Chris, Thanks for pulling this old message. To clarify my ground rules... 1. No painting. A lot of the value in a Lego element is compromised if it can't be reused as originally intended. Custom stickers and tape, however, are fair game as they can (...) (25 years ago, 1-Jan-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.build, lugnet.publish.photography)

  The Royal Train - Controls

James, Thanks! This may take a while but I'll get some close-ups of the controls and mechanisms the next time I do a shoot. Everything is 9v with 4.5 wiring (boy did I get a deal when Dacta cleared-out 4.5v stuff) Turnouts are controlled by (...)   Re: The Royal Train Website

I have to agree with Todd, I was totally blown away when I saw those pictures! I actually had to wait till I was more awake and look at them again before I would believe what I saw.   Re: The Royal Train Website

(...) Brian, this is the most incredible thing I've ever seen! I can't imagine the amount of work that must have gone into hand-painting all those pieces and setting up and photographing the displays. It's totally beautiful. My jaw dropped on almost (...)
