I'm considering a free web site from geocities.  Is there anything I should
know about those or any hidden gimmicks.
Thanks,

Blake,

I currently have a site at Yahoo! Geocities and I don't have much of a gripe
with them although I think there are quite a few people that are unhappy with
them and have been moving there sites.

I am one of those people who is currently in the process of moving their site.
I don't mind the merge, I'm just tired of all of the redirects and flubbed
up links. It's gotten so bad that I almost can't navigate my own site.

I personally like the service and have no plans on moving.  One catch is that
if you don't put their "GeoGuide" on your page or sign up for "GeoPlus" at
$4.95 per month you get "POP-UP" adds when people go to your site.  I
personally find these extremely annoying and often will leave a site
immediately if I get a "POP-UP".  I therefore would suggest at least putting
the "GeoGuide" on your page to stop the POP-UPs even though this puts some
unwanted advertising on your page.

I also signed up for "GeoPlus" and it has some nice features.  I havn't gotten
around to removing all of the "GeoGuide" adds from all my pages yet however.

Hope that helps,

Eric

There are several other free hosting areas, Tripod and FortuneCity being
just a couple of others.
