I don?t buy it. Certainly I hope I am wrong but I think this is an elaborate
hoax ala Mr. Beneke 2000. Too many things just don?t add up for me ? I?ll
spare the bandwidth.

It's no joke.  I'd never ramp up everyone's hopes like that for some kind of
hoax.

MOCpages is something that I've been planning for over a year.  That was
when I started noticing (among many other things) the exponential growth in
popularity on Brickshelf, and the growth of visitors and review-writers on
my own web site (www.brickapple.com).

MOCpages is basically an extended, beefed-up version of my personal web
site, which allows site visitors to write reviews, rate my MOCs, etc.  My
site didn't have a content management front end, though, which meant adding
new pages was tough for me.  So I wanted to build some web-forms for myself
to do so.  That way, for example, I could toss up a page while I was at work
as soon as I noticed a brickshelf gallery became moderated.  ...Then I
realized that all this could just as easily be generalized to a point that
anyone could make pages in the same manner.  That started a recurring notion
in the back of my head that finally emerged as a relational database design
and some mockups last summer.

I've had the time to do the development because I have been out-of-work
since October.  (New York City's unemployment is the highest in the country,
especially for the tech market.)  So, because I really love web development,
I've been working on MOCpages for about 12 hours a day, 5, 6, or 7 days a
week, for the past 2 months solid. (Plus I spent time on-and-off for about 3
months before that doing the design and planning.)  Whew.  So, 20,000 lines
of code later, and here we are. :)

( By the way, what is "Mr. Beneke 2000" ? )

Sean, if you want to change your launch date, I may reconsider.

LOL, oh, I see, April 1st?  Well, it's only coincidence, trust me.  The
alpha was released and testing began on March 1 by a very tight group of
people (mostly non-lego folk: web techies, usability people, etc).  I
scheduled a week and a half for alpha test & fix, and then the rest of the
month will be a public beta.  (Thanks to everyone who has volunteered for
the beta so far!)

Anyway, I'll keep you all updated on the progress, starting with a general
announcement when the public beta opens sometime next week.  There still may
be a few things missing if I get a lot more bugs back from my Alpha testers,
but so far things are looking good.

Sean
