Fair enough. I solve similar problems with non-runtime scripts that generate
HTML. For example, the photos pages on my church site are all identical except
for the picture link, caption text and prev/next links, and that'd be a pain to
do without automation. My solution is to generate the pages using a program
that reads 1) an HTML-like pattern file that contains the common code and 2)
a text file that contains picture numbers and captions, and merges the two into
linked HTML files. The program also generates a table of contents for chapter
navigation.
The result is a few dozen nearly-identical HTML pages that are linked together
with prev/next buttons and a table of contents on each. This way I don't need
to rely on any particular web service, so I can move my site easily, and I
don't need to rely on any client-side technology beyond basic HTML.
