Please use javascript sparingly. As far as I can tell it's used on these pages
to assemble frames, which is unnecessary.

To some extend, I understand your concern. Please understand mine.

I use javascript because I can't use client-side scripting at my hosting
service. To keep my website manageable I need to use generic functions. E.g.
my picture tours with clickable hotspots, captions and such, are all
generated client-side from a database-like array.
And indeed, which frames and menus are loaded are regulated in the same
fashion, to minimize the amount of html-files I have to change each time.

Since this is a hobby for me, I guess I should take for granted that some
people can't acces the site. For bussines sites I might have to decide
otherwise. However, most professional sites nowadays use Javascript because
bussines sites often need more functionality than simple browsing, and
besides I consider Javascript as a fairly 'low tech' barrier for browsers,
compared to java-applets and plug-ins.

(...) Fair enough. I solve similar problems with non-runtime scripts that generate HTML. For example, the photos pages on my church site are all identical except for the picture link, caption text and prev/next links, and that'd be a pain to do (...) (22 years ago, 27-Nov-02, to lugnet.publish)

(...) Um, that's just what javascript is - client-side script. A script that runs on the client, i.e. browser. I think you mean to say server-side scripting (e.g. CGI). Not that there's anything wrong with Javascript. One thing you might consider is (...) (22 years ago, 4-Dec-02, to lugnet.publish)
