hello .pirates! i am new to lugnet, and this is my first ever post, but i
have designated myself a .pirate. i have been a lurker for awhile :-( but
finally got involved. :-) i have been keeping tabs on the ship building
going on recently, and have some of my own i will put on as soon as i
get some good pics, but until then, i have some pics of my first
attempts at pirate ships.

Attempts? You are entirely too modest. Lovely lines on these ships – very
smart looking ships, and nice broadsides to boot.

thank you very much! you are too kind. i was happy with them because they
were my first ships, but my second genereation is far better. i have built 2
that are more accurate, and have better designs.

these vessels have no names, as i did not mean to keep them around long,
they were just the precursors of things to come. i attempted to do research
into the fighting sail between the 1600s and 1840s, and i think these were
pretty good for my first try. the designs do need refinement though.

That's a pretty wide design window you've set for yourself, with some
significant changes in design character through it. Is there any particular
period of ship you've settled on?

i studied this period because this was where the galleon type warship really
came into its own. i decided that i liked the ships of about 1770-1820 the
best. i like the later design as opposed to the earlier ones, but i like the
beakhead prow better than the raised prow that replaced it later. i also do
not like the design of large warships with too many topsails, as the later
ones had. i cannot remember all their names. hence, the ships of this period
are my favorite.

the red ship is built of 2 BSB's, and the blue ones are from 4 and 5 CC's
respectively. i wanted to go for a french VS english thing at first, but
decided that the cost to build more french ships was too much (as CC's are
more expensive per what you get as compared to BSB's). in any case, please

Aha, those sames sorts of concerns steered me clear of both sorts back in
the days when they were available, so now I'm on to the 1:1 building... not
that I don't enjoy it! In any case, the blue can work as both French and
British if you want to turn your future building efforts to the Union
Jack... : )

no worries, you have a friend here. i ended up deciding to scrap my french
building program by virtue of cost, and now only build ships that fly
british colors. i know it is typical to build british ships, and i actually
wanted to build just french ones, but the cost was too high. all in all, you
get a lot of great parts from the BSB, and they are not too expensive if you
keep your eyes open and remain patient.

give me some feedback, thoughts, questions, anything, and it's great to
finally be a member!

Good to have you! Always good to have more shipbuilders around. At some
point (ah, those fatal last words) I'd really like to get a list going of
all the builders on .pirates and maybe their specialty, so we can keep track
as the body of builders expands.

count me in as a shipbuilder!

Anyway, splendid ships, glad to have them on the LEGO sea lanes! Certainly
can't wait for the next generation!

hopefully soon.....ha ha ha ha! all i can say is the british forces are
going to get quite a boost! and with the danger posed by the french these
days (Le'miserable), we can use all the help we can get!
