G'day all!
The ship of my assembling squadron is complete and -- finally! --
photographed. Here she is:
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=23189
*Bought off the stocks from a private builder and armed with nine 36-pounder
carronades, "Friendly" has the ability to act exactly opposite to her name.
Captained by Lieutenant Robert MacEwan, a scotsman recently off a crack
frigate, the cutter is currently cruising off the coast of Newfoundland,
working against French privateers.
The Admiralty has ordered MacEwan to seek out a small deep-water port for
the use of Captain Richard Carstairs' anti-piracy squadron, a unit
"Friendly" will join once it arrives in the Americas. With the help of
Captain Argyle Tucker, a local Newfoundland fisherman who is himself working
against privateers in the region, "Friendly" has found Brickley's Bay.*
"Friendly" is SNOTed using LFB's technique, measuring about 65 stud-feet
long and 24 wide. She's essentially the test model for larger, curvier ships
to come. I'll hopefully be getting a site up regarding her -- and the rest
of Captain Carstairs' squadron -- in the not-to-distant future, with more
background and such.
Feedback is always welcome!

| (...) Ahoy! Excellent, excellent work! Proof of concept! SNOT arrives in the age of sail. (I've been pressing my eye to the screen trying to get a closer look at that hull.) Did I mention it was excellent work? Well Done! Richie Dulin (22 years ago, 11-Aug-02, to lugnet.pirates)

| (...) An excellent opening salvo in the application of SNOT building to Pirate ships! I'm sure you're discovering a lot of the same things I did in my three SNOT vessels--especially the 6:5 ratio which will become firmly imprinted in your head as (...)
