You didn't go to BrickFest, did you...there's a bunch of us
   within about 3-4 hours' drive.

I'm up to about 30 some odd craft with 7 or so Schooner size or above. I
haven't had a chance to test them in battle yet, but should the opportunity
present itself...

I guess I should take a rest from ships and buy a digital Camera so I can
start posting pictures... We'll see. Just looking to see what other people
have and maybe get a good concensus on what a good fleet should be.

Woohoo!  I'm always happy when someone new to the forum brings
up the perennial pirate-fleet-size question.  Just in time, too,
for me to be getting ready to build again!  I just got my Brickbay
6291 center-sections, and I'm getting ready to crack open my two
6289s that I bought last year in Leiden.

I have no pirate ships currently built (but I possess a ship that
would wreck most pirate fleets, as well as one's available kitchen
space), so I have to give the component stats:

   16-wide hulls-
      7 bows (4 all-brown, 1 brown/red, 2 red/dkgrey)
      7 sterns (same deal)
     17 midsections (4 red, 13 brown)

   12-wide hulls-
     10 bows (4 white/blue, 4 dkgrey/black, 2 brown/dkgrey)
     10 sterns (same deal)
      8 midsections (6 white, 2 brown)

   10-wide hulls-
Plenty of bow bricks in white, blue, grey, black

   6-wide hulls-
Oh, MAN.  Lots, in all colors.

   Other hulls-(these aren't really pirate-able)
1 large police boat hull (from L&S set), 1 red fireboat
hull (modular, old), 1 new-style floating police boat hull.

So I suppose that I'll probably have something like 17
ships and maybe 30 smaller craft or so.  I don't think I
have enough pirates to CREW that many, however.  I may
also run short of mast bits when I get past 10 ships or
so, and I'm also very short on sails. This is the REAL
reason I stuff smokestacks on everything.

As far as what a good pirate fleet is, three ships is
about optimal for an active fleet.  More than that gets
unwieldy and "epic," less than that goes pretty quickly.
For the Pirate Game, though, we've only once ever had
someone with two ships *in action*.

Frank?  You out there?  Surface from your work for a
   moment, willya?  ;)

   best
