I have a question for you fellow pirate game players.  When building
custom ships, do you let everyone just make whatever they want,
irregardless of reality?  Case in point, my friend likes to put all of
his cannons mounted onto those swivel bases.   So while at any given
time you only have half your guns pointed towards him, he's swivelled
all his cannons to bear on you..

It's definitely governed by the rules of the Game.  Frank
(who's already chimed in) is the one to ask, as he's had
it clarified by the Great Evil Creator.

Although I should point out that I may handle the broadsides cannon
differently. But then I've never been shy about changing rules (my game
design hobby started only slightly after my gaming hobby - I remember
designing alternate boards for Tactics II WAY back when [I forget how
old I was, probably about 10]).

   But to be honest,
I really think swivel cannon ought to be done away with, save
for small culverins or murderers.  I'm not aware of too
many cases where full-size cannon were put on swivels before
   the mid-1800s.

The problem with eliminating swivel cannon is that 12-wide ships are too
narrow to really have cannon facing each way, and it's almost impossible
to have a side facing cannon on a cutter. Of course one must also
recognize that the game is really just a fun representative game, and
not a serious war game.

(...) Of course, choosing which side to place your cannons on is nice 'n tactical in a campaign game, you could try and put all 7 on one side of a class 7 and use a cutter or two to defend your other side... One thing I like about the pirate game (...) (23 years ago, 8-Jun-01, to lugnet.pirates)
