Of course, choosing which side to place your cannons on is nice 'n
tactical in a campaign game, you could try and put all 7 on one side of a
class 7 and use a cutter or two to defend your other side... One thing I
like about the pirate game is that it works on several different levels,
you've got your sailing around & combat + ship design (crewing, placing
cannons, other items) + role-playing (trading, diplomacy etc.)
When I ran the game in April (sorry, no photos yet - I'm pestering
people for 'em), I had a bag of 2x4 black 'n grey brick for people to build
up mounts for their cannons, that way you can quite easily get a side-facing
cannon on a standard 6077 cutter (One clever player even managed to get one
to face forward...)
