Way back in 1979, I was worried about the possible replacement of the Legoland town stuff that I loved with the newcomer, Legoland Space. I believe that there is a rather large battery box cavity in the interior of the engine above the base plate. Whats nice is that you get to this cavity via the bottom of the train thru the hanging tank. So you have the 6x8 "tank" below, the IR (...) (...) Well theoretically using conducting tape would work but reliability would be a huge issue. My guess would be that the tape would likely rub through within a hour or two.
