Hi All!

I would like to invite any/all interested NELUGgers to a medieval-themed
Brikwars event at my place.

Cool! And if anyone needs troops, I've got the extra Black Falcons, Crusaders,
Black Knights, Fright Knights, Royal Knights, etc. to accomadate :) [also a
sizeable supply of horses & dragons, weapons, etc]

my
guess is that with the amazing castle-themed things that have been
turned out over the past year (Eric K's Inn and Church, Dave E.'s
village, Chris P.'s college, and many more that I am certainly
forgetting) we could have a stunning layout for many troops to run
around in, and get some great pics out of it.

That'd be quite the setup! I just got a few more tan baseplates and brown ones,
and I've been thinking of widening my village... The only odd point being the
bridge on the outskirts of town-- probably needs to be widened. Although that
could make for quite an interesting battle twist...

Just thinking out loud here-- My village is... about 4.5 by 7.5 (as measured in
32x32 baseplates)... I think our previous ones were roughly 6x10 and 7x7... and
given the increased number of troops, perhaps we'll want it bigger than those?
Or perhaps the closer range aspect will make them need to be more tightly
packed and need less space? I've got tons of extra green baseplates if need be,
a few extra brown ones, and 2 more tan ones... Too bad the traditional 32x32
road baseplates would look a little out of place... I KNOW we can scrounge up
those in quantity...

The date is somewhat flexible, and will be tailored to the greatest
turnout.  I'm leaning towards Nov. 18th or 19th, though the 25th or 26th
are also possibilities if they're more convenient for more people.

For now, anywhere in there (short of thanksgiving of course) is good for me...
Though I'd be strongly inclined to set it up one day and have the next be for
the battle... Also due to driving distance :)

Most of my efforts at the moment are focused on the Train show
on Dec 2nd and 3rd.

Actually, I was coming into org.nelug to check on that-- I was also about to
work on some more buildings for it, other than my mini-office/apratment
building and the little store I've got at present that made their debut at the
last brickwars event... Hmm... Think I'll make a separate post...

As for the game setup itself - how does loosely-medieval-historical
context with fantasy elements sound?  That is, no gunpowder, but
skeletal warriors, dragons (?), magic users, trolls, dwarves, catapults,
trebuchets, ballistas, battering rams, and some alternative creatures
are all okay.  Emphasis on time-frame and overall ambiance, not
historical accuracy.  Castles/structures to defend are fine, as some
people will presumably prefer to forage and attack (ahem *cough cough*).

Oooo, skeletal warriors! Can't wait to use those bizzare rules for them that I
seem to remember him starting to derive online...

Well, there you have it.  Please let me know which day(s) work best for
you, and I will have my trusty administrative assistant tally the
results (Eric J., are you listening? ;).

Actually, seeing as I still have almost two weeks of vacation left that I've
been forced to put off taking, I can probably make it anywhere in that time
frame, even if it happened to be a weekday... however, I doubt we'll get many
votes for that :) So you can put me down for either...

(...) I should probably likewise point out that I can give out loaner Black Falcons, Crusaders, etc. I have lots of Castle guys from all eras. (...) Yeah, but they would (IMHO) really detract from the setup. I think, beleive it or not, that not much (...) (24 years ago, 27-Oct-00, to lugnet.org.us.nelug)
