A micro mill that processes scrap material is essentially an electric-arc
furnace in which three giant prongs come down and melt the scrap material.
Various chemical ingreadients are added to the top layer of slag to alter
the chemical composition of the molten material (and turn it into a suitable
grade of steel) while the slag itself captures unwanted material and
provides radiative protection of the molten material - for this reason the
transprot buckets are some times designed without a "cap").  The molten
material is then poured down a giant funnel and fed into giant rollers,
which create a wide, thin continuous sheet of sheet steel.  This is where we
get much of our sheet steel for car bodies, believe it or not.  And it would
be suitable for ship hulls. The additional buildings that you have mentioned
are only necessary if you are processing ore.  The question is:  Do we want
a site that processes ore, or scrap.  I think that you idea is the best
initially since you would want an ore processing plant on a new planet.  My
idea would be a suplimental site since all scrap material would have to be
recycled.

I can also instead make one of: a oil refinery, plastics refinery, tooling
manufacturing, plastics molding shop, microchip processing facility, an
automated electronics assembly plant, a electronics box assembly plant,
aircraft fabrication facility including a helicopter fabrication facility, a
mobile food processing plant (which I plan on doing anyway for the show), a
fiberoptics fabrication center, a water purification and reclimation center,
a atmospheric processing tower (shake 'n' bake colony), a large toroidal
fusion reactor, a small vehicle fabrication plant, a textile plant, a
off-world ranch, hydroponics bays...the ideas go on and on.

The question is:  what kind of a layout would we want to do given we will be
very space limited, and we would want to display somthing sci-fi, cool
looking on it's own, and that would detract from the other buildings.

We could do a ship building yard.  Have a space dry dock with little workers
repairing the ship.  An assembely dock with a ship in the making.  We could
have a cargo monorail, delivering parts. A power plant with fiber optic
lights. Check my sketch out.

Just a basic drawing Ships, Docks, Powerplant and so forth.  Just an idea.
