Hey, at the last Ithaca meeting it was brought up that there is a huge
trough of bricks at a hobby store.  There was interest in going down there
and checking it out.  Well, Im interested in going before the Christmas
break (I head back to the frozen tundra on the 20th).  Let me know if anyone
else wants to make the trip, has a car, or whatever!

Dave -
Sounds good to me, but my car's usually full of wife and kids when I go down
there to visit our folks.

The HORC Hobby store that used to be located in the plaza on Harry L. Drive
in Johnson City across from the TRU has been closed for some time now.  I
think Alan said that the owner relocated and opened up elsewhere in the
area, but I don't know where.  Maybe Alan's got more info on that.

The owner's not the nicest business person to deal with, but he did have a
table full of used LEGO pieces that you could troll through and he'd charge
some inconsistent prices for different pieces.  I got tired of haggling over
stuff, and stopped going there.  Many pieces were damaged, but there were
some goodies.  All of them needed cleaning, and they just got worse over
time as more people would rifle through them on the open table that he had.
If he's got the same pile, I'm not that interested.  If he's refreshed his
stock, maybe.  He always kept minifigs and easily recognizable pieces behind
the counter and out of reach, with especially high prices.

There's an HORC store up here in Rochester that's related to the store that
was down in JC, and I can tell you similar stories with that guy, but
there's no LEGO involved.  These two guys just leave a bad taste in my
mouth, and I spend my money on BrickBay instead.  But, it's fun to go
through a table of LEGO for sale at a crummy hobby store at least once.

Wow - looks like I really rained on your parade there!  Sorry.  I actually
hope you get to go there to check it out and find great stuff.  Keep us updated!

Ed

I theoretically wouldn't mind heading down some day, but it's busy for us right now with the holiday season. The bigger problem is that I'm still not sure the place exists anymore. I just tried searching the web with no success; the only address I (...) (23 years ago, 30-Nov-01, to lugnet.org.us.lucny)
