Sounds cool. I wonder if it would be possible to make some of those person-counter-roll-when-you-walk-through things (like they have in subways) in minifig scale for the pedestrian gate.

The nice thing about using the castle wall standard is that anyone can contribute a single baseplate-length of wall. I propose using primary and secondary colors (red, blue, yellow, green, orange, purple), in any design or pattern as long as you meet the castle standard. I think the wall should figuratively shout “Fun at the Zoo! Fun at the Theme Park!”.

It would look really neat if each wall section could have a studs-up mosaic in it. The mosaic wouldn’t have to be big or eleborate. It could be something simple like a rainbow or a 2-tone skyline. From the park1.jpg pic that you posted, it looks like the meeting distance between the park and zoo is 6 baseplates. One baseplate at each end of that will have a train going through it, so that leaves 4 wall sections. Then we’ll have a gate for pedestrians, so that leaves us with only 3 wall sections to make.

David, an issue with the castle standard is that the wall is in the middle of the baseplate, so the divider between the zoo and the theme park will take up a whole row of baseplates either on my side or yours (or in some combination). I suggest we just wait and see how much stuff we end up with on each side and lay the wall accordingly. If we put a dogleg in the middle, we can almost divide the area evenly.

That’s fine. If needed I can bring 16X32 baseplates to pad either side with ground area.

There’s a great list of nonstandard animals at Classiccastle.com.
I have the Lego animal instruction book, too. I’ll try to remember to bring it to the August meeting in case someone wants to borrow it.

I just built a prototype terrarium for a spider. Pictures: post-moderation: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=89985 Teaser: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/ALittleSlow/Town/SpiderTerrarium/spidertop2.jpg

Let me know what you think. Especially, are the colors okay? Is it the right height? Would a larger “spider habitat” be better? Does the hinged lid look stupid (would car-roof hinges be better)?

That terrarium looks cool! The colors and lid look fine. That type of container was exactly what I had in mind for the creepy crawly kinds of animals.

I think I’ll build a wall section with dinsours crashing through it into the zoo. What do you think, David?

Great idea; Jeramy will love it! Just make sure that Stormtroopers are riding on all of the dinosaurs. ; ) Actually I was thinking of making a big escape at the zoo on the Sunday of GATS with minifigs getting mauled and stuff.

Should the walls be on green baseplates?

Sure.

I also forgot to mention earlier that I have enoung of the 1X4X2 black lattice fence pieces to go around the entire zoo side of the area.
