Live in fear? Well maybe. If my rover doesn't improve drastically, my
stacker isn't going to get enough to eat, and it's a hungry beast. My
current record is 14 blocks BTW - and that's on an un-even table. This
event has actually convinced me that I should replace this table here
in the basement. The slope of the floor toward the drain is bad
enough, but the table itself is just horrid. What was I thinking when
I bought it at a garage sale 11 years ago? I should have been planning
for this event!!

Don't worry Matthias,

We always have kids distributed sporadically around the arena, occasionally
leaning on the edges, which sometimes causes the towers to fall over.  Most
of the time, though, they point at a yellow robot and say, "Hey Mister!..."

I believe there was one of our illustrious leaders who mentioned in a
conversation, "If I ever see that kid lean against the arena again..."

;)

Anyway, no sleep but I have a 'bot that's 80 percent complete.  Thankfully I
should be able to use the same program I used in my last stacking 'bot in
this one so programming won't take as long.

At 2 a.m. is no time to realize that one does not actually own a tape
measure!  18 inches?  Hope I can contain my robot to such a limited size....

Just thinking about it now, the smallest 'bot I ever made for one of these
competitions was for Project X.  Biggest 'bot?  Probably the block sorting
(for mass and volume) and the second block stacking (length--almost 2.5
feet)  I've had to lose a whole foot to get the stacking 'bot down to size!
Now there's a competition! ;)

Anyway, the ramblings of a tired but happy 'bot builder.  The muse of
inspiration has hit a few days before the competition.

I hope we see another dancing 'bot from Iain!

(...) Just grab a bunch of long plates/beams and build a 57 stud long scale. And remember the robot only got 3 minutes to run around. (22 years ago, 7-Nov-02, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
