OK, well maybe I might. When LUGNET was established there were a rash of
posts along the lines of...FIRST POST, well, it looks like Calum who
works around computers all his life and rarely lets his day job
interfere with his life takes the honor. BUt i can boast SECOND post.
WOW i need a life. And that's where you come in:

We pretty much (we being the 5 of us who went for a quick meal after the
last game) were convinced by Bruce that "so what" about the size
limitation. So 'cause we are still trying to figure out what works....
build a bot. if you can make a bot 3' x 3' well all the power to you.
if you have 12 RCX bricks and need to use al of them to build a bot.
COOL. What do you all think?
> 2. The New Game: I think we might want to retire the Sumo game. Jin
demonstrated the very cool hockey player robots which are easy to build
and
program given his foundation design/code. How can we turn this into an
event
which is easy to join into, but also capture the imagination of people
wanting
to expand their involvement? A major problem is that the ball/puck is
custom
> made.
hear is where i disagree with Calum. After meeting Phill who explained
that the past game was his first games and that he wanted to try his
hand at sumo; it occurred to me that people might want to try building a
bot but might not feel up to something as complex as marble sorting or
block stacking. I think a sumo typo game is perfect. any beginner can
get there feet wet with one RCX and a bot that drives and does not fall
off the edge.
BUT a hockey game requires something more..... THE PUCK!!!! Calum
solution would be to publish code and simple plans and then let people
modify from there. that's all well and good but in reality people who
build such a bot wont be able to test there creations and subsequent
re-creations without the puck. it is my understanding that the puck is
a purpose built device requiring knowledge in microcontrolers, and
electronics.
OK, so after all this is said and done, I'll go with what everyone
wants. OR maybe we hold 3 events, 2 entry level games and a
blockstacking.
> 3. Advertising and Sponsors: Rob Stehlik suggested we get sponsors
for the
event. How can we find interested sponsors and get them into our event
while
> keeping the same experimental, casual flavor?
I feel that whomever decides to sponsor should sponsor on the existing
event itself. It would start to get real bad if we had to make major
modifications to the games just to please sponsors. comments??
> 4. More Events: It seems we're really good at running Technic/Mindstorms
> events but not at anything else. What other events/get togethers would people
> like to see, and how can we go about organizing them?
I propose that we only ever talk about and do technic mindstorms type
games. and if and when we meet that all topics be limited to
technics..... all in favor?? motion carried! :)

| Hi folks, First of all, thanks to Todd Lehman for setting up this newsgroup for our use! In the past few years, Chris Magno, Jeff Elliott and I have organized and put together quite a few events, if only for the fact we didn't have great tools like (...)
