Hi folks,

First of all, thanks to Todd Lehman for setting up this newsgroup for our
use!

In the past few years, Chris Magno, Jeff Elliott and I have organized and put
together quite a few events, if only for the fact we didn't have great tools
like Lugnet to share in the organization of events with other GTA Lego folk.
Some stuff is easy to do, like designing posters and making websites-that's
fun and quick.

But what's harder to do is to define events and competitions.  This is where
we need your help.  A good example was coming up with this new blockstacker
game:  After the May 27th event, we all chatted about new games at the usual
post event dinner, and over the course of 60 odd emails, we hammered out the
details between several participants.

What we'd like to see is people to join in the discussion, to bring out the
debates on how the games should be structured etc.  Here's four topic starting
points:

1.  Blockstacking II: It seems after the 23rd, the single RCX limitation will
be lifted with the provision that points will be awarded 1/N RCXs.  Meaning,
if you use one RCX, you get the point scale published last time, if you use
two RCXs, you get half the points.  Also, the size limitation will disappear.

2.  The New Game:  I think we might want to retire the Sumo game.  Jin
demonstrated the very cool hockey player robots which are easy to build and
program given his foundation design/code.  How can we turn this into an event
which is easy to join into, but also capture the imagination of people wanting
to expand their involvement?  A major problem is that the ball/puck is custom
made.

3.  Advertising and Sponsors:  Rob Stehlik suggested we get sponsors for the
event.  How can we find interested sponsors and get them into our event while
keeping the same experimental, casual flavour?

4.  More Events:  It seems we're really good at running Technic/Mindstorms
events but not at anything else.  What other events/get togethers would people
like to see, and how can we go about organizing them?

Calum

Hi I had a real fun time at the Sept. 23rd event and I encourage everybody to attend the next one. It’s neat to see everybody else’s ideas and robots that they built. I also agree that the Hockey game is cool but the custom made ball thing is a huge (...) (24 years ago, 6-Oct-00, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
