I'm saving up for my dyson DC06 and CR01 Contrarotator, thank you very much.
The DC06 is an actual hardcore vacuum, based on dyson's unbeatable root
cyclone technology:

Evolution Ian, evolution.

The market is always willing to accept a cheaper version provided it
is 1) moderately functional and 2) cute.

The Roomba is cute.  No-one has to worry about it attaching their
family pet and hurting it.

People with no robotic vacuum experience would  hear the phrase
"autonomous" and "cyclone technology" and have metropolisian visions
of insane renegade  monster cyclone robots sucking up poor foo-foo
their pet toy Pomeranian.

(maybe of they added happy google eyes on bouncing spring eye stalks....)
