If you need to paint anything plastic, Krylon has a special formulated paint called Fusion Paint.

IT was specifically designed to bond to most plastics. the colour pallet is limited, but for painting plastic without flaking... its amazing.

what I have told people is to get a fusion colour close to what you want, and paint your product. THEN, find almost any other spray bomb in the colour you require, and apply it over the fusion.

good luck.

Chris

As long as you are painting over the Fusion paint this is fine. The problem that I’ve encountered with Fusion is that it picks up color from underlying plastics, paticularly red plastic.

I’ve been making models and movie props for years. If you want a thin coat of paint, then coverage is an issue. A problem with many spray paints is that they build a static charge as they leave the can. As soon as some of the part gets some spray, it also has a charge, and repels the rest of the paint! So none of the paint goes into the fine detal.

This doesn’t seem to be true with lacquer paints. So I usually use a lacquer primer (hard to find). http://www.chaseproducts.com/products/paint/lacquerprimer.cfm And then paint over it with other paints as needed.

I painted some red parts black recently. I used a black primer, and clear coat.

I’ve also painted some parts grey, but used a brush, as my airbrush was dead. But again useing a grey primer and hand brushing over that with a better color match.

Good luck,

Mat

(...) Is one of those situations were you have to paint a horse to get a convincing looking cow on camera, and if you want a horse you have to tape a bunch of cats together? Derek (19 years ago, 11-Oct-05, to lugnet.org.ca.rtltoronto)
