I had read about Frys in several places, on Slashdot, in Douglas Coupland's
"Microserfs", but the unusual nature of such a place defies explanation or
understanding. It's such a weird blend of consumer and industrial use. There's
even Lego there--though a limited selection.
I guess at one point Radio Shack would have carried stuff like this. Not that
anyone apart from a select group of nerds would really want it, but it's
comforting that I could buy a multimeter there to diagnose a problem while also
looking at digital cameras and iPods.
