I'm doing this right now myself. Basically, I've found another AFOL here on
California's Central Coast, and we've decided it is time to begin. It's just
that simple, as far as I'm concerned.
We're hashing out a name, and a logo. From there, we'll probably just get
together as often as possible...no by-laws, no constitution, no ups, no extras.
I will say that we're not going to ask for a LUGNET .org group of our own
any time soon, as there is already an unused group for our geographic
location. Plus, we really don't need that kind of validation just to start a
group...perhaps when we have some membership numbers to back us up, we'll
impose on Todd and Suzanne's good graces...but don't let the lack of a
LUGNET group of your own stop you, by any means.
The most important reason...heck, the ONLY reason...to start a LUG is to
have FUN! My best advice? Don't get bogged down in the mire of starting.
Slap together a web site on a free server, post some MOCs, and invite others
to join you. Then get together and BUILD! In other words...K.I.S.S.
HTH,
Matt

| (...) That was pretty much what I had in mind...but I wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I needed to do to avoid stepping on anyone's toes in the other state LUG's. Thanks for all your advice, and be on the lookout for a new LUG! Tim (23 years ago, 26-Jul-01, to lugnet.org)

| Okay, I've got a question to all those out there...what's the proper procedure for starting a new LUG? I reside in Florida, in Tallahassee. For those of you unfamiliar with the layout of Florida, that's quite a long distance from Orlando, Tampa, and (...) (23 years ago, 25-Jul-01, to lugnet.org)
