Monday and Tuesday after leaving my computer on for a while, I came back and it had rebooted. I ran a virus scan with updated definitions and nothing came up. Tuesday evening, the computer turned off while I was using it. Wednesday, the computer (...) (21 years ago, 22-Jul-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Doh! It looks as though, once again, you're correct. As it turns out, the old "file.bat" accessed a location on the network, rather than the internet. Darn it. Thanks for ending my wild goose chase, though. Dave! (21 years ago, 30-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) That works if the site is on your windows network, so you can access it as \\hostname\path\to\file... But if it's not available, I don't think it's doable... Say, if you try to copy (URL) to your local drive, I don't think it'll work. But I'd (...) (21 years ago, 30-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) I wish I could remember or find it, but it was something dirt-simple like this: copy //www.doofus.com/dol...d/fool.txt c:\network\fool.txt but I can't recall the formatting, and that's the whole problem. Dave! (21 years ago, 30-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

I guess it's not *really* DOS but is intead a DOS shell running on Windows XP. In my former department I used (...) (21 years ago, 30-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) Dave, I'm pretty sure you can't do it without an external program. If you have FTP access to the file, you can use the command-line ftp program included with most msdos versions, otherwise you will need a non-dos program, I would recommend GNU (...) | | Is there a standard syntax?
|
|
Hi All: I know next to zilch about programming, even in DOS, so this question is asked in ignorance and good faith. If I'm writing a .bat program to copy a file from a known, static location on the web, is there a standard format by which the (...) (21 years ago, 29-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
