Re: LUGNET's code [was: Random thought of the day]

--SNIP-- (...) Cool, sounds like PHP done right. Tim (19 years ago, 19-Jul-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek, FTX)

  take the MIT weblog survey

There is a general social survey of weblog authors being conducted at the MIT Media Laboratory. For more information, visit: (URL) survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, and we are asking anyone with a weblog to participate. The larger the (...)   Re: Is there a standard syntax?

(...) Doh! It looks as though, once again, you're correct. As it turns out, the old "file.bat" accessed a location on the network, rather than the internet. Darn it. Thanks for ending my wild goose chase, though. Dave! (19 years ago, 30-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Is there a standard syntax?

(...) That works if the site is on your windows network, so you can access it as \\hostname\path\to\file... But if it's not available, I don't think it's doable... Say, if you try to copy (URL) to your local drive, I don't think it'll work. But I'd (...) (19 years ago, 30-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Is there a standard syntax?

(...) I wish I could remember or find it, but it was something dirt-simple like this: copy //www.doofus.com/dol...d/fool.txt c:\network\fool.txt but I can't recall the formatting, and that's the whole problem. Dave! (19 years ago, 30-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Is there a standard syntax?

(...) Does that mean that XP provides an internal way to download files? How does that work? Can you show us that one line? :) (19 years ago, 30-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Is there a standard syntax?

(...) After I left work last night I realized that my formulation of the question was really feeble, so here's some more info, if it helps. I guess it's not *really* DOS but is intead a DOS shell running on Windows XP. In my former department I used (...) (19 years ago, 30-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: Is there a standard syntax?

(...) Dave, I'm pretty sure you can't do it without an external program. If you have FTP access to the file, you can use the command-line ftp program included with most msdos versions, otherwise you will need a non-dos program, I would recommend GNU (...)   Is there a standard syntax?

Hi All: I know next to zilch about programming, even in DOS, so this question is asked in ignorance and good faith. If I'm writing a .bat program to copy a file from a known, static location on the web, is there a standard format by which the (...) (19 years ago, 29-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

  Re: Falling thru earth revisited

(...) Yeah, like do you have to fly at an angle to avoid hitting the sides due to the earth's rotation? (...) Isn't this the whole idea behind the gravity slingshot they use to accelerate spacecraft? It worked in "2010" and I think NASA uses it all (...) (19 years ago, 22-Jun-05, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
