  Why serial?

Serial buses seem to be fashionable right now. The most common ones are probably USB and Firewire. Some say that these, or some ancestors of them, will replace parallel connections like SCSI and IDE ATA in the future. I can understand that serial (...)   Re: Voting algorithm?

(...) Well, actually, it's a standard histogram, with snapping to tens on the range. In contrast, a stemplot (a.k.a. stem and leaf graph) uses the numeric digits of the constituent values as part of the actual bars, which is a bit different. But (...)   Voting algorithm?

I have a Web site with about 1400 of my plant photos. I recently added a voting mechanism to help me order images of the same plant by quality and to help me figure out which need to be replaced. The problem that I'm seeing is that people aren't (...) (24 years ago, 24-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

(...) And DOS, and even Windows. If you're at an MS-based command prompt, and you enter COPY CON FILE.TXT, you won't get your prompt back until you hit ctrl-z. Steve (24 years ago, 20-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)

Re: So you think you know your stuff?

A lot of the questions are very Microsoft-biased, or at least personal computer biased. What does ctrl-c do? Well, it sends sigint, yeah? What does ctrl-z do? It's EOF on VMS. "Supporting dynamic and static drives" is a bit weird -- I suppose Linux (...) (24 years ago, 20-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.geek)
