Military Question: Tanks and Motorcycles —Richard Marchetti
Hey Y'all: I know almost nothing about the manner and techniques of outfitting an army, and I find that I have no idea where to look for the information except some google searches that didn't yield much of interest. What I want to know is the whys (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Military Question: Tanks and Motorcycles —Lindsay Frederick Braun
(...) What's usually the context of the appearance? Usually, IIRC, motorcycles were used by couriers--so they should only appear with armor when the army is on the move, and the entire mechanized force is in transit. Motorcycles would also be used (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

(...) The one thing that always pops into my mind when thinking of motorcycles and WW2 is the nazis chasing Indiana Jones and his dad from the Castle in Last Crusade :) Adrian -- www.brickfrenzy.com (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Military Question: Tanks and Motorcycles —Bruce Schlickbernd
(...) The Germans did use motorcycles in combat - kind of a mobile light cavalry strike force. I'm not sure that they used them in conjunction with tanks. Hit and run missions or advanced strike teams to get to key locations. Not really stand-up (...) (23 years ago, 11-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, lugnet.build.military)

Re: Military Question: Tanks and Motorcycles —Magnus Lauglo
I don't know anything about how German motorcycles actually were used in WWII, but from my own limited military experience doing my national service in the Norwegian army, I can imagine how they might have been used. Often see them with a sidecar (...) (23 years ago, 12-Dec-01, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, lugnet.build.military)

Re: Military Question: Tanks and Motorcycles —Christian Lindblad Rasmussen
In World War II the German army used a lot of motorcycles. The other armies mainly used motorcycles for liason, couriers and traffic control. At the outbreak of the war a typical German panzer division consisted of 4 tank battalions and 3 (...) (22 years ago, 16-Jan-02, to lugnet.off-topic.fun, lugnet.build.military)
