Yes and no. Cf. the Dead. They made space down front for people who were
recording their shows and actively encouraged a very active marketplace in
"bootleg" tapes. Which had significant value because every one of their
shows were different, and weren't really bootlegs since they were "approved".

But ya, I agree, there's not much point in recording a Britney Spears
concert, since she syncs her stuff anyway.

next to nothing off of CD/album sales.
