  Re: New S@H Catalog

(...) You're right, I don't want to be loose against you, too much chance of damage, I have a lot of parts that might break off. But I'm not worried about losing against you in the over 30 group, since there isn't one. There's just an 18+ one, and (...) (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Classic Space Contest: Final votes tallied -- results to follow

(...) Sorry! How about "winner, but not the biggest winner"? After all, no one who entered is a "loser", all the entries are neat. (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.build.contests, lugnet.space, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: New S@H Catalog

(...) Whew. Well for a sec there I thought I wouldn't be able to enter my "poke your eye out with a sharp stick flatcar load"... (...) Based on what we've seen in the mania magazines, I suspect the answer would be "potentially quite a bit". ++Lar (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.trains, lugnet.off-topic.fun)

Re: Review: 7316 - Life On Mars: Excavation Searcher

In lugnet.reviews, Karim Nassar writes an excellent, prescient review: (...) <snip> (...) Dude, how'd you *do* that? You wrote this, like, 4 years ago and you've been keeping it to yourself all this time?? Whoa. No fair. Mom, Karim's got a wayback (...)   Re: Tractor beam?

(...) Well, don't ask the fans, they're groping, get the professional's fifteen answers. I don't know who came up with this one, it might be Thomas Disch or Barry Malzberg or David Kyle: F&SF is "fiction set in an empirical universe other than our (...)   Re: The Grinch toys

Markus Wolf wrote in message ... (...) Same with Pooh. All the Pooh toys out there are based on Disney's rendition of Pooh, not the original Pooh drawn by E. H. Sheperd. And the Thomas the Tank toys are based on the TV series, not the original (...) (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Totally non-Lego, but...

(...) I've bought some hardcover LEGO books, but then as far as I know, it's the only way to stretch for ultimate Pirate completeness (which is eluding me by one set, one book, some service packs, any keychains, all variants of boxes and (...) (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Tractor beam?

(...) That's one reason I like the term F&SF (Fantasy and Science Fiction). It nicely lumps everything together, though it is still hard to define (really, most fiction could be considered fantasy). There certainly are books I would consider part of (...) (25 years ago, 30-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: The Grinch toys

I noticed that too. I thought it'd be neat that there would be Grinch merchandice, because the original really is a classic. I really wasn't looking for it, but when I saw the grinch from a distance, I had to check it out. But they really are (...) (25 years ago, 29-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  The Grinch toys

A few caveats: I am only posting this here because this is the only forum I find worthwhile, I know that this post is extremely irrelevant to Lego. I admit to a certain supercilious attitude regarding other toys because of my view of the natural (...) (25 years ago, 29-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Tractor beam?

(...) Before we go any farther with this we must all acknowledge that there is no set definition of science fiction or fantasy, nor is there any solid distinction between them. If you ask ten fans for a definition you'll likely wind up with fifteen (...) (25 years ago, 29-Dec-00, to lugnet.off-topic.fun)

  Re: Tractor beam?

(...) The rule I always understood was that a Trek con was a SciFi con and an SF Con was something like Worldcon or Boskone or any of a huge number of cons generally put on by fans and generally concentrating on literary subjects (with a generous (...)
