I agree there's a cost to someone. I just don't see it as a cost to
"society". Some one entity or group of entities is going to be, bad luck
for them, stuck with it. If this is what the entire anti immigration
argument boils down to, I concede. There is a cost.
There is a cost from lightning too, and if we wanted to, we could
prevent lightning from ever happening. But the cost of preventing it far
outweights the cost when lightning DOES hit. That's why I brought
lightning and trees falling over in, because they are examples of other
kinds of unfortunate accidents, theoretically preventable, that are not
worth preventing.
I just don't see it as a reasonable or realistic problem.

I don't much care whether the party wins elections in the currently
rigged US system or not. What I'm rather more cheery about is that
libertarian ideas are gaining acceptance, among those with functioning
brains and open minds. But I'd nonetheless dispute that the party is
"going nowhere". It's doing just fine.

Practice saying that in front of a mirror.

| (...) I don't know exactly what you're smoking, but I think I'd like you to keep it away from me. How, pray tell, could we prevent lightning from ever striking? Note, _ever_ means _one_hundred_percent_ effective. Jasper (25 years ago, 30-Jan-00, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)
