Re: Libertarians are silly, guns should be outlawed, and there is no God

(...) My "good old days of Lugnet" metre was fit to burst (again) but this post has well and truly deflated it. Thanks. Rant averted. Tim (18 years ago, 13-Jun-06, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Libertarians are silly, guns should be outlawed, and there is no God

I miss the good old days in ot.debate when we discussed real issues, and our opinions had wide-ranging impact well beyond the bounds of LUGNET. Why, my musings on the virtues of government subsidized medicine led directly to Canada's implementation (...) (18 years ago, 13-Jun-06, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

In lugnet.off-topic.debate, Marc Nelson Jr. wrote: SNIP Marc, I will endeavor to be as simple as I can in my reply, I hope you will be able to read deeply into the answers, as short as they are. (...) The Seatop is a brig, as I specified in my post, not a ship. See (URL) for further details. Cheers Richie Dulin (18 years ago, 13-Jun-06, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) It's a joke, Larry. Or am I the only one that thinks this whole 'discussion' is hilariously absurd? Allister (18 years ago, 13-Jun-06, to lugnet.off-topic.debate)

Re: 2nd Joe Vig contest entry - How Joe learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

(...) Yes. There is a warm and embracing community here, or what's left of one, and it acted the way we all have seen it act in the past, warmly, as you describe above. The part you missed though, is that there is also a much less warm and embracing (...) (18 years ago, 13-Jun-06, to lugnet.off-topic.debate) !

Re: 2nd Joe Vig contest entry - How Joe learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

Hey all, I'm confused as to the "debate" here. This seems a perfect example of community. Two community members sponsored a contest to encourage building and donated the prizes (including the first prize as a $50 set). Another community member was (...)   Re: 2nd Joe Vig contest entry - How Joe learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

(...) While there is no need for debate for this particular example I don't think it is entirely unneccesary. The debate goes beyond the current example into the wider realm of contests, rules, strict interpretations, internet manners etc. Just (...) (...) Hello, Paul. Thank you for your opinion. For the record, Nathan and I were in complete agreement prior to my reply to Linus. (...) We are very sorry to hear that. Your response seems to be a very personal attack on me, but that is your (...) (18 years ago, 13-Jun-06, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: 2nd Joe Vig contest entry - How Joe learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

(...) It is always hard to get one's message and tone across in a written medium. I did not find Nelson's message inconsiderate, or perceived him as having an attitude - it was simply a direct and honest answer. As I stated earlier, in the end I am (...)   Re: 2nd Joe Vig contest entry - How Joe learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

(...) My sentiments as well. I'm glad the rules are enforced, which ensures that this contest is more enjoyable in the end. There really is no need for a greater debate than that. (18 years ago, 13-Jun-06, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: 2nd Joe Vig contest entry - How Joe learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

(...) To defend Lenny (whose reply I found amusing) and also Nelson, who's being painted as some sort of bad guy for enforcing the rules of his contest. Why would you want to take a shot at me? (...) That's why I said "like". It was an example. (...) (18 years ago, 13-Jun-06, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: 2nd Joe Vig contest entry - How Joe learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

(...) Did you post this message just to defend Lenny, or because you wanted to take a shot at Chris? (And before you ask: Yes, I am posting this because I want to take a shot at you.) (...) Why? It seems John's already posting the mandated head. (...) (18 years ago, 13-Jun-06, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)

Re: 2nd Joe Vig contest entry - How Joe learned to stop worrying and love the bomb

(...) Did you post this message because you are "saddened", or because you wanted to take a shot at Lenny? If you don't like the contest sponsors' ruling, then do something helpful, like John Neal did. Or maybe sponsor your own contest - one without (...)
