Non Neocon Republicans might very well vote for Kerry in preference to Dubya

That may be true, but thats a classic example of cutting off ones nose to
spite ones face. Republicans might, no will, disagree with Bush on certain
issues, but they will certainly disagree with Kerry on virtually all issues.

At the very least, those true
Conservatives might simply withhold their votes for Dubya, even if they dont
vote against him.

This sounds reasonable, though, in my mind, not advisable. Change is best
inacted from within, not by pouting on the out.

Anybody but Bush is a rallying cry, rather than a formal statement of
strategy. Much like Compassionate Conservatism (which has turned out to be
neither) was intended to energize a voter base, Anybody but Bush is
intended to resonate with people who recognize the imperative of getting
Dubya out of office.

Again, I would say that conservatives should be careful what they wish for;
Kerry happens to be the most liberal senator in our senate.
