“It is pretty clear that the coalition can win in Afghanistan and Iraq in one way or another, but it will be a long, hard slog.”

Gee, what happened to the easy win with the open-armed natives welcoming their U.S. saviors?

Isn’t the long, hard slog what I predicted?

Basically, this is an admission that the two wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and the current anti-terrorist campaign are doomed to the same kind of failure as the “War on Drugs.”

Thanks for the real deal, Rummy!

Rumsfeld memo consistent with public views (URL) "Rumsfeld has not characterized it that way in public, but Air Force Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has used similar words." This story is at the top of the page on CNN (...) (21 years ago, 23-Oct-03, to lugnet.off-topic.debate, FTX)
