Well throughout history we have yet to see a country prove otherwise. Oh
wait, thats not proof?!

Well, Id have to say the recent (last 50-75 years) histories of many South
American countries is also proof that not having guns makes a country ripe
for a dictatorship. So yeah, if thats not proof I dont know what is...
I think Kooties thinks that just because most people normally restrain
themselves from committing acts of violence that they are incapable of
mounting an organized revolt should the need arise. Given that people are
often politically on opposite sides of things, I can give some value to the
idea that it would be hard to organize people behind a single idea or reason
for a revolution; but I still think if things got bad enough it could happen.

And I would be in support of revoultions to overthrow tyrannies.
Look, if you want to sell democracy to the world, which is a want that your
country so obviously has, then you have to believe (for lack of a better word)
in democracy.
These other countries that you always bring up as cites havent lived the
democratic life for 200+ years. People in these other countries live under
the threat of the gun--this is what they wake up to, this is what they fall
asleep to. You, on the other hand, do not live in this type of society. As a
point of concern, the equalizer that aided your revolution 200+ years ago is
now aiding in the violent deaths of thousands of your fellow citizens.
Its like a society that has a cure for a disease that eradicated a virulent
plague many generations ago--the plague is gone but people today still insist on
having that particular medicine in their house just in case. The interesting
part is that this medicine can kill sometime if used.
So if the disease is gone, why have the medicine? Especially when, as shown,
the medicine can cause violent deaths.
Youre brainwashed into thinking guns solve problems. This is why you wish to
keep them. It really is the bottom line--your society truly believes that guns
solve problems. It is why you have a black market for them, why theres illegal
imports from off-shore sources, and why anyytime any bit of regulation is even
talked about yall get your knickers in a knot.
Well, I dont believe that. I believe that guns are a detriment to your
society, to the tune of thousands of violent deaths and millions of other crimes
per year. Oh wait, I dont have to believe it to be true, its a fact.
As a tangent, I cant remember who said it but we were talking about parenting
and letting your kid touch a hot stove. I was of the mind that if your 4 year
old was reaching for something that they shouldnt be reaching for that you, as
a parent, should, maybe, slap their hand or otherwise intervene. I dont think
a whupping behind the woodpile would be necessary, but some sort of parental
discipline to let thie kid know that he shouldnt go around touching hot stoves.
Others were of the mind that let the kid touch the stove, hell learn the hard
way never to do it again. Well, a four year old shot his sister. Lousy
parenting? Nyaah, just a tough life lesson for the kid.
