Back to taxes though...

Your approach to the subject is still too partisan for me.  I see both the
democrats and the republicans as being a bunch of idiots, but if push comes
to shove I'd rather get value for the dollors paid in taxes so I might
sometimes vote for the democrats.  The democrats will give us more and
better social welfare programs, and for which we have already paid.  In the
best of all possible worlds, we'd all pay less and have less government
interference altogether. Sadly, we're never going to get anywhere with
either party.  Don't hold your breath.

I definately agree with your last statement, I tend to vote more for
Republicans because they often seem to talk like small government types, but
rarely act that way when they get into office.

True the Democrats give us better social welfare programs, but those
programs tend to create a bunch of people dependant on them for survival.
Were we to get our way and the whole tax system were revised today, with
deep cuts in government beurocracy, what would happen to those currently
depending on welfare, food stamps, WIC, medicare, etc. to survive? We are
currently at the point where all these things would have to be phased out
over years. Adding more social programs means creating more dependency. Let
charitable organizations like united way, salvation army, or red cross take
care of those needs, they would do it better and more efficiently than the
government anyway.

I really agree with your other post, we are not getting nearly the value we
should for our dollar. "My problem with the system is being taxed as much as
a socialist country but not getting the same level of quality programs as do
many socialistic countries." Great quote, I think I will begin using it myself.

To be honest, we might actually get somewhere with someone if voters could for just once focus on the money -- in a way, all the president should (...) I am not sure that they are at all related, but I'd rather pursue programs and measures that might actually increase security instead of merely depriving citizens of their constitutional rights or engaging in a frivolous war.
