Our republic is broken, at least to some extent, I gave you 3 examples of
why, out of many many many more possible ones. That's completely on topic to
where this thread is going.

Also, please note:

While I said I'd *prefer* to just work for change... that's just an
admission of weakness on my part. I'd rather "feel like" I was doing
something (as long as I was deluded enough to believe it, and believe
revolution was not necessary) than have to bother with a messy revolution,
even if that's precisely what is in fact needed. It is not in ANY WAY a
validation of your claim that working within the system is effective or
satisfactory.

This thread is not helping me remain delusional, it's reminding me yet again
why working within the system won't work.

The article is about forking and revolutionary change within the open source
context, but it applies to all systems... high barriers to entry imply more
likeliehood of revolution rather than gradual change... and the duopoly of
parties here in the US has ensured that we have high barriers to entry.

In one respect the Canadians are doing better. Their parties seem to be
changing alignment, splintering and redirecting and mergine, much more than
ours... our last new party to win a presidential election arose before 1860/

Scary stuff.
