Are you saying that the Democrats would have made the same mistakes as the
Republicans over the past 12 months and before? I'm yet to be convinced of
that. Bush is governing by paranoia, I doubt AG would have done the same.

That is an astute observation. However, you must remember that whist you may
feel that your paper freedoms have been lessened over the past quarter
century; females and minority groups have gained real freedom in many areas.
I don’t share your culture, but observance of racial, gender and religious
freedoms/equality are what I’d strive for 1st – and the ability to own a
gun or drive without a seatbelt can come later.
...but that's just my view!
