In lugnet.off-topic.debate, Scott Arthur writes:
Bush is governing by paranoia, I doubt AG would have done the same.

Who can say?  These guys are all ultimately poll-driven centrists -- it's
just that the Bushes are also pointedly oil-obsessed, war-gods.

That is an astute observation. However, you must remember that whist you may
feel that your paper freedoms have been lessened over the past quarter
century; females and minority groups have gained real freedom in many areas.

Hmmm, this is all very debatable.  The lynching isn't widespread or
performed without fear of capture, but stuff does happen.  Minorities may
actually soon be in for worse economically than what has gone before in some
ways too.  Certainly, the glass ceiling remains.

What ever happened to all that stuff the "internet revolution" promised?

Is that a joke?  The world teeters on economic collapse...this war stuff is
just to keep everyone's mind off how they are being fleeced by both the
govt. and wall street.  These periodic depressions make for a good buying
environment for the super rich, or hadn't anyone noticed?

Word from Argentina, where you will find some of the most fertile land in
the world, is that people are actually abandoning their family homes and
leaving the country.  Let's presume a lot of these vacated homes will end up
as bank properties -- time to go in and buy cheap.  You can probably play
out the same scenario for farm and ranching properties too.
