Your right. Although the original name is french (Valenduc) the spelling was
changed when some Hugenots moved to Holland a few centuries ago. My better
half is from Limerick though, so we'd like our kids to be bilingual, hence
the international school.
Southwestern Leiden would be Stevenshof? And north of Leiden-CS would be
Merenwijk? I must agree with you there, Merenwijk is one of the worst areas
to live. Originally I'm from Sassenheim, a little village some 10 km north
of Leiden (along the A44 motorway).
My student years were spent in Delft, and that's now my second favorite
place to live in Holland, after Amsterdam. Probably sounds like a cliche,
but I really love the relaxed atmosphere in Amsterdam. And I'm not talking
drugs here!

Anyway, in a few years we'll be moving to Ireland again....

What's so great about Leiden? The only reason I live here is because of • the

university...

Leiden just happens to be where I lived while on research.  Are
you not Dutch (the international school)?  The surname implies
   Dutchness.  :)

I didn't mind living in southwestern Leiden, but I lived north
of Leiden-CS and that was less pleasant.  Maybe I should have
lived in Katwijk, which I rather liked a great deal.

   (Never been to Limerick, though.)
