Well...it ain't all that big of a trick to import the guns into Ontario from NY
either...but, that _still_ doesn't make the crime rate with firearms in Ontario
all that high in comparison to most major US areas. Look at a US city with a
population of 2.5 million, and its murder per capita ratio in comparison to
Toronto (Metro Toronto, not GTA) (which includes the "worst" parts, rather than
the GTA which includes LOTS of higher income areas)
Now, would this work as a comparison? What US cities have a population of ~2.5
million? (Sorry, I don't have enough US geography to know- I know that NYC is
~10 million, same with LA, but not sure of other cities...I guess I'm being a
ignorant CDN :)
Since we are talking about a relatively open border between the US and Canada
(especally for criminal types- the US DEA has admitted to as much out here in
BC), it would favor that if criminals were going to be the only armed ones,
that they would be able to get guns, and since there are very strict limits on
carrying a firearm (open carry restrictions- I cannot, unless in uniform carry
one (a pistol)...and it is well nigh impossible to get a concealed carry permit
here.
Therefore, if as is being postulated, that having a armed population
discourages criminal actions, and lowers the murder rate, this should be
relatively evident from the average murder rate per 100 000.
(reasonable? Or, are Canadians just too DAMMED friendly? :)
I'm looking for the core city, not outlying suburban cities. (I think that the
ratio would get MORE in favor if we include the outlying areas- but, I don't
want downtown NYC either, because that would be JUST as bad of a exageration as
if we include all of the GTA in the math)
Could someone who knows US cities find a suitable US city?
I'll get the Toronto stats for any year up to about 98 (Not sure if they are
compliled more recent than that, that's all...I know that the murder rate woudl
be, but I want a breakdown like what I posted before)
