Not really responding to what James wrote, although I think it made
sense.  Just jumping in again.

Brought up Larry's (and what I assume are the LP's) opinions on the
government health care thing today at work.

Didn't fly too well, other than with the conservative economics major
in my office.  The personal responsibility issue flew well with
someone I respect very much, a mostly right-headed individual, but he
also seems to think that, as he put it, "making healthcare a
commodity" is a scary thing, and that with "all the taxes the
government takes from us, they could just stop wasting the money on
the stupid things they spend it on and provide free healthcare for
everyone."

I was a little stunned at the opinions of some people.  I heard things
like, "well, if the government stole, as you put it, less money from
us, do you honestly believe that people would, out of the goodness of
their hearts, give more to charitable organizations?"  I think they
would.

'Course, this is the same person who, when asked what his charitable
contributions were last year, answered, "none".  Also the same person
who claims he can't save any money because it all goes to bills, and
yet still manages to charge things like a 32" tv and a trip to Florida
every now and then.

When I asked him if he was honestly serious about not being able to
save and he again said yes, I casually pointed out that the 2-3 20 oz
Coke's he drinks every day, along with the cup or two of coffee from a
shop across the street could easily add up to over a thousand dollars
in a year.  He seemed a little offended at that, for some reason.

'Course, I also found out that one of my coworkers, the econ major,
had worked to build a habitat house last year.  That's cool.

The non-saver said he wouldn't have time for that, just like he didn't
have time to volunteer his evenings to attend Novell or MCSE training
like I've done for the past 6 months or so.  Kinda funny that he sees
my recent job advances as opportunities that I've been "given".
