(Snipped Jon's Reply to the original Posting)

Well said.

Thanks for taking the time to write what I thought, when I felt it more expedient to write 'crap'

So let me see if I've got this all straight now - in my original post I
stated that I had "discovered" that LEGO was now making toys in China.  I
explained that I generally try and avoid items made in that country due to
promptings by my wife to be more concerned about workers there and because I
feel that items made in China generally are inferior in quality.  I then
raise the QUESTIONS of whether or not I'm correct in thinking that if LEGO
started making ALL its toys in China there would be an overall reduction in
quality and also whether or not folks thought that LEGO could be pressured
into not moving it's manufacturing to China.

Your "expedient" response to this lawrence was to dismiss it as "jingoistic
crap."

When I point out that your denouncement was not at all an useful
interjection into the discussion you throw another little tantrum in which
you insist that your comments really were "thought provoking" and then up
the ante further by calling my comments racist and bigoted (BTW I'm still
waiting for you to produce the evidence of racism).

Now Jon comes along and actually takes the time to put down some coherent
thoughts and responses to mine.  At the core of his response is the idea
that the way to affect change in China is to have the U.S. government bring
to bear international pressure on that country to force changes within it.

And now suddenly you're letting loose with a "Bravo!" and "Jolly Good Show!"

I'm really confused now.  You've previously expressed your disdain for the
U.S.A. but when Jon proposes having our government FORCE the Chinese
government to change its ways and make changes within a country that is in
no way under U.S. jurisdiction you're suddenly all for the program.

Please explain how it's NOT "racist" and "bigoted" for the U.S. or even the
U.K. to decide that they don't "like" the government and culture of China
and that all that has to be changed to meet Western standards.

I was merely raising the question of whether LEGO made in China would have
quality issues - for that I'm a racist.  Someone else proposes having the
U.S. government (once again, a country you obviously despise) FORCE changes
in China and you can't seem to applaud loud enough.

Case in point - my brother in law imports items from China.
Some are sold at a mark up of 16x the price he pays.
And the UK customer still thinks they are getting them cheap!

My befuddlement continues because I don't understand how bragging about how
your family profits from the whole Chinese cheap labor market and unbridled
capitalism (of which I'm a fan) makes a "case in point".   How does this
relate to what Jon was talking about - having the U.S. force changes in China?

If there are quality problems, it is not the Chinese who are too blame.
It is greedy corporations who drive down the price they are willing to pay - knowing the manufacturers are desparate for
work and cash.
Then drive UP the price the consumer has to pay - knowing we have too much money

Of course it's not the Chinese people themselves who are the blame.  The
people working in the factories in China are (I assume) simply doing the
jobs they're trained and paid to do.  So the blame is on the Corporations
that go seeking cheap labor which brings me back to my original questions:

If corporations in China are seeking cheaper labor and cheaper manufacturing
costs can it be assumed that this "cheapness" will also be found in the end
product?

But I guess I'm back to making more racist and bigoted statements huh?

Well here's a final one for you lawrence that even you should have no
problem interpreting:

In our back-and-forth postings I'm not the one who is spewing the crap.

Eagerly awaiting a reasoned and intelligent response,
Greg
