My point was that it's an *elective* surgery. Pregnancy is generally an
elective condition. Should people who choose to have an elective
health-related procedure done be entitled to paid time off?

I see Flex Time and maternity (or paternity) leave as two distinctly
different things. Flex Time where I work describes an alternate work
schedule (something other than 8-5). Maternity leave is completely different
(time off). However, I see your point and agree with it.
